English Translation

The Journey to Mars

Leo works on a space station. The station is called Nova 4. It flies high above the Earth in cold space. Leo loves his job, but today is a very special day. For the first time, he is flying alone in a small spaceship to Mars.

The spaceship is red and shines in the sun. It is not very big, but it has everything Leo needs. Before launch, he quickly drinks a cup of hot coffee. Then he puts on his white spacesuit. The suit protects him from the cold and the vacuum. Leo puts on his helmet and checks the red and green lights on the control panel. Everything works perfectly.

“Have a good trip, Leo!” says the computer voice of the station kindly.

“Thanks, Nova. See you soon!” Leo replies.

He presses a big blue button. The spaceship makes a quiet hum and suddenly shoots forward. Leo feels a strong force in his stomach as the Earth behind him gets smaller and smaller. Soon it is only a small blue dot in the dark universe. Around him, millions of stars sparkle like little diamonds.

After a few hours of flight, Leo sees Mars. The red planet is beautiful. It glows in warm ochre and orange tones. Leo carefully steers his ship closer. His destination is a small research station on the surface. Other scientists work there.

Suddenly the computer beeps loudly. A yellow warning light flashes on the screen.

“Attention, Leo,” says the computer voice. “There is a small meteorite flying ahead. Please change your course immediately.”

Leo takes a deep breath. He gets a little scared, but he stays calm. He remembers his training. With quick hands, he moves the joystick to the left. The spaceship makes a dodging maneuver and flies closely past the gray rock. Phew, that was close!

A little later, Leo lands softly on the red, dusty surface of Mars. The engines shut down. It is absolutely quiet around him.

Leo opens the hatch and steps out of the ship. He takes the first step onto the ground. His boots leave deep prints in the red dust. He looks up and sees something incredible: the two moons of Mars are standing together in the dark sky. Leo smiles under his helmet. He will never forget this journey.
