Suddenly, the water is different. A large, gray fin comes out of the water. It is very close to his board. Julian sees the fin and gets very scared. His heart is beating very fast. He cannot speak. He does not move.
The fin swims in a circle. Under the water, Julian sees a large, dark shadow. The animal is very big. Julian is barely breathing. He holds his board very tight. He thinks: “Please swim away.” Every second is long.
Then the fin is gone again. The water is calm. Julian does not wait. He lies down on the board. He paddles to the beach with all his might. His arms hurt, but he swims fast.
