Der geheimnisvolle Pfad zum Grünen Fluss
German A1 Audio Narration — Der geheimnisvolle Pfad zum Grünen Fluss (The Mysterious Path to Green River) by Shawn Frandsen

„Entschuldigung, gute Frau“, sagt Leo schnell.

English Translation

The Mysterious Path to Green River

Leo lives in a quiet village near a big forest. He works at a local market every day. He sells fresh fruits, sweet apples, and soft bread. Leo likes his job, but his life is very simple. Every night, he dreams of going on an exciting journey. He wants to see deep valleys, climb tall rocks, and find mysterious places.

On a rainy Tuesday morning, an old woman enters the market. She carries a heavy red bag. She drops a small wooden box on Leo’s table by mistake.

“Excuse me, ma’am,” Leo says quickly. “You forgot your box!”

The old woman stops and looks at Leo. She smiles softly. “That is not a mistake, young man,” she says. “That box is for you. Inside is a map labeled “The Mysterious Path to Green River”. It belonged to my father, but now I am too old for long trips.”

“What is on the map?” Leo asks, holding the box carefully.

“It shows a path to an old cabin in the woods,” she explains. “A small secret is waiting there. If you are brave, you can go and find it.”

Leo thanks the kind woman. His heart beats fast with excitement. Finally, his big day has arrived.

Early on Saturday morning, Leo wakes up before the sun rises. He prepares his blue backpack. He puts a bottle of water, two green apples, a yellow raincoat, and a flashlight inside. He takes the paper map and leaves his warm house.

The morning air is cool and fresh. Green trees stand tall along the muddy path. Leo walks for two hours while birds sing above his head. “I hope there are no bears,” Leo says to himself. Soon, he hears the sound of loud, rushing water. He reaches a wide river with clear, clean water.

“This must be the river from the map, I wonder why they call it green river if it’s so clear?,” Leo says to himself.

He looks around for a dry way to cross the water. The river looks deep and cold. Leo sees five big grey stones across the river. He steps carefully onto the first stone. Then he jumps to the second, third, fourth, and fifth stone. Hop, hop, hop! He lands safely on the soft grass on the other side. He drinks some water and continues his journey.

Next, Leo walks up a steep green hill. The walk is long, and his legs feel very tired. He stops under a big tree to rest for ten minutes. He eats one sweet green apple. From the top of the hill, he looks down into the valley. He sees a small brown wooden cabin surrounded by large pine trees.

“There it is!” Leo shouts happily.

Leo runs down the hill carefully. He stops in front of the old cabin door. The wood is dark and dry. Leo pushes the door slowly. It opens with a loud sound: creak!

The inside of the cabin is dusty and dark. Leo takes his bright flashlight from his bag and turns it on. The light shines on a small wooden table in the center of the room. On top of the table sits an old metal box with a brass lock. Next to the box lies a small iron key.

Leo picks up the iron key with shaking hands. He puts the key into the lock and turns it softly. Click! The box opens.

Leo holds his flashlight close and looks inside the box. There are no spiders thankfully, but he does not find silver coins, diamond rings, or gold bars. Instead, he finds a pair of strong binoculars, a small compass, and a beautiful leather notebook with blank white pages.

The first page of the notebook has a message written in dark ink: “Adventure is not about gold. Adventure is about seeing the world.”

Leo grins broadly. He loves the new compass and the leather notebook very much. He places all the items inside his backpack.

Leo steps out of the dark cabin into the bright sunlight. The sky is clear blue, and the afternoon breeze is warm. He feels proud, happy, and strong. He starts his long walk back home to his peaceful village. He cannot wait to write his first story in his new notebook. His weekend adventure was a wonderful success.
