English Translation
The Great River Adventure
It is a beautiful summer morning. Lena and Max are standing by a large river in the mountains. Today they are doing a real adventure: they are going white-water rafting! The sun is shining warmly from the sky, but the air by the water is fresh.
First, they meet their guide, whose name is Markus. Markus explains the most important rules. “You have to listen well and work together,” he says. Everyone puts on a red life jacket and a blue helmet. The equipment fits tightly and securely.
Then they walk to the shore. There lies a large, black rubber raft. Lena and Max carefully step in and take their long paddles in their hands. Markus sits at the back of the boat and steers with a large oar.
“Are you ready?”, Markus calls out loudly.
“Yes, we are ready!”, Lena and Max call out in chorus.
The boat slowly glides into the flowing water. At first, the river is calm. They see green trees on the shore and hear birds singing. Lena enjoys the quiet nature and takes a deep breath of the fresh air.
But after a few minutes, the water changes. It gets faster. Small waves appear. The boat starts to rock.
“Watch out, here we go!”, calls Max with a wide smile.
The water gets wilder and foams white. Large waves hit the boat. Cold water splashes into their faces. They laugh and shout with joy. Suddenly, they see a huge rock in the middle of the current.
“Watch out, a rock! Pass on the right!”, Markus calls in a loud voice.
Lena and Max now have to react very quickly. They plunge their paddles deep into the roaring water and paddle to the right with all their might. The boat tilts a little to the side, but they make it perfectly. They steer past the large stone by a hair’s breadth. Phew, that was close!
After this difficult spot, the water becomes calmer again. They breathe out deeply and pat each other on the shoulders. The adrenaline is still pumping through their bodies.
They continue paddling for another half hour through the beautiful valley until they reach the finish line at the end of the river. They step out of the boat. Their clothes are wet, but they are beaming with happiness.
“That was the best adventure of our vacation!”, Max says enthusiastically. Lena nods in agreement. They take off their helmets and happily head back.
