The secret in the old castle
Anna was twelve years old and was on vacation in a small village in Germany. She was staying with her uncle. In the village, there was an old castle from the Middle Ages. The castle had thick, gray walls and a big tower. The people in the village said that the castle had a secret.
On a sunny afternoon, Anna walked to the castle. The old gate was open. She walked slowly into the big courtyard. It was very quiet there. Green plants were growing everywhere on the old stones.
Suddenly, Anna saw a small, heavy wooden door. The door was not properly closed. She opened the door and saw a dark staircase. The stairs went down into a cellar.
Anna was a little bit scared, but she was also curious. She took her phone, turned on the flashlight, and walked carefully down the steps.
Downstairs it was cool. The room was small and dark. In the middle stood a heavy wooden table. On the table lay an old book with a brown cover. Anna took the book and opened it. The pages were made of paper that looked very old. On the first page was a date from the year 1542. It was a real history book from long ago!
Anna smiled happily. She carefully put the book into her bag and ran quickly upstairs. She could hardly wait to show this great find to her uncle.
